Answers and explanations

QuestionAnswerExplanation
17/83/4 is 6/8, and 6/8 + 1/8 = 7/8.
21/21/3 is 2/6. 5/6 − 2/6 = 3/6, which simplifies to 1/2.
3936 × 25 = 900. There are two decimal places in the question, so the answer is 9.00, or 9.
418Multiply both numbers by 10: 72 ÷ 4 = 18.
521.35Line up the decimal points: 12.75 + 8.60 = 21.35.
615Multiply first: 4 × 3 = 12. Then 25 − 12 + 2 = 15.
76Work the brackets first: 18 + 6 = 24. Then 24 ÷ 4 = 6.
860Volume = length × width × height = 5 × 4 × 3 = 60.
96One third of 9 is 3, so two thirds is 6.
105 hundredthsAfter the decimal point the places are tenths (7), hundredths (5) and thousandths (2).
119/4 or 2.253 × 3/4 = 9/4, which is 2 1/4 or 2.25 cups.
12901/4 of 120 is 30. 120 − 30 = 90.
134.87The thousandths digit is 7, so round the hundredths digit up from 6 to 7.
142921 = 3 × 7, 27 = 3 × 9 and 33 = 3 × 11. 29 has no factors other than 1 and itself.
153/50.6 is 6/10, which simplifies to 3/5.
