Answers and explanations

QuestionAnswerExplanation
1567 × 4 = 28, and double that is 56.
279 × 7 = 63, so 63 ÷ 9 = 7.
329Multiply first: 6 × 4 = 24. Then add 5 to get 29.
4500478 is closer to 500 than to 400.
53,460The ones digit is 2, so round down to 3,460.
6623200 + 300 = 500, 40 + 70 = 110 and 5 + 8 = 13. 500 + 110 + 13 = 623.
7244458 + 244 = 702, so 702 − 458 = 244.
826Add all four sides: 8 + 5 + 8 + 5 = 26.
942Area = length × width = 7 × 6 = 42.
101/2When the top number is 1, a smaller bottom number means a bigger piece. 2 is the smallest bottom number.
111/2Divide the top and bottom of 2/4 by 2 to get 1/2.
12455 groups of 9 make 45.
13832 ÷ 4 = 8.
1476 × 7 = 42.
154:30Half past means 30 minutes after the hour.
