Test mode and practice mode

In test mode you answer every question first and see your score, the time you took and the answers at the end. In practice mode you press Check after each answer to see right away whether it is correct, with the explanation.

How answers are scored

For questions with a number as the answer, you can type a whole number, a decimal such as 2.5, or a fraction such as 3/4. A dollar or pound sign is ignored, and a fraction and its decimal value count as the same answer. Multiple choice questions have one correct choice.

Printing the test and the answer key

Use Print the test for a paper copy with a space for each answer, and Print the answer key for the matching answers. Both print without the rest of the page.

Answers and explanations

QuestionAnswerExplanation
1150Distance = speed × time = 60 × 2.5 = 150.
23025% of 40 is 10, so the price is 40 − 10 = 30.
321There are 5 parts. One part is 7 litres, so the larger part is 3 × 7 = 21.
490The five tests need a total of 410. The first four total 320, so the fifth must be 90.
5120Each year earns $40. Over 3 years that is $120.
62545 ÷ 180 = 0.25, which is 25%.
72Together they fill 1/6 + 1/3 = 1/2 of the tank each hour, so they take 2 hours.
823The middle number is 72 ÷ 3 = 24, so the smallest is 23.
9228 × 2.75 = 22.
1024One eighth of 64 is 8, so three eighths is 24.
1187.53.5 × 25 = 87.5.
12502 × (18 + 7) = 50.
1345612 × 38 = 456.
144.25Pencils cost $2.00 and erasers cost $2.25, so the total is $4.25.
1548The trip takes 3 + 2 = 5 hours for 240 miles, so the average speed is 240 ÷ 5 = 48.
