How the test works
Test mode and practice mode
In test mode you answer every question first and see your score, the time you took and the answers at the end. In practice mode you press Check after each answer to see right away whether it is correct, with the explanation.
How answers are scored
For questions with a number as the answer, you can type a whole number, a decimal such as 2.5, or a fraction such as 3/4. A fraction and its decimal value count as the same answer. Multiple choice questions have one correct choice.
Printing the test and the answer key
Use Print the test for a paper copy with a space for each answer, and Print the answer key for the matching answers. Both print without the rest of the page.

Answers and explanations
| Question | Answer | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6 | Subtract 7 from both sides to get 3x = 18, then divide by 3: x = 6. |
| 2 | 32 | Add 3 to both sides to get x ÷ 4 = 8, then multiply by 4: x = 32. |
| 3 | 1 | −12 ÷ 3 = −4, and −4 + 5 = 1. |
| 4 | -1/4 | 1/2 is 2/4, so −3/4 + 2/4 = −1/4. |
| 5 | 30 | The change is 15. 15 ÷ 50 = 0.30, which is 30%. |
| 6 | 78.5 | Area = π × r² = 3.14 × 25 = 78.5. |
| 7 | 31.4 | Circumference = π × diameter = 3.14 × 10 = 31.4. |
| 8 | 1/3 | 5 and 6 are greater than 4, so 2 out of 6 outcomes, which simplifies to 1/3. |
| 9 | x ≥ 5 | At least 5 means 5 or more, which is written x ≥ 5. |
| 10 | 22 | 4 × 8 = 32 and 2 × 5 = 10. 32 − 10 = 22. |
| 11 | 25 | One notebook costs $2.50, so 10 notebooks cost $25. |
| 12 | 52 | 6.5 × 8 = 52. |
| 13 | -2 | 5² = 25 and 3³ = 27. 25 − 27 = −2. |
| 14 | 65 | The angles of a triangle add up to 180. 48 + 67 = 115, and 180 − 115 = 65. |
| 15 | y = 2x | A proportional relationship has the form y = kx and passes through (0, 0). Only y = 2x does. |
Tips for Grade 7 math
- Undo operations in reverse order when solving equations: add or subtract first, then multiply or divide.
- For percent change, divide the change by the original amount, not the new amount.
- Write the formula before you substitute numbers for circle problems.
